JIM GELCER
Critics have called Jim Gelcer “a hidden jewel in the Canadian jazz landscape”, with a voice that sounds “Like Chet Baker with edge”. Gelcer is at home in an eclectic range of genres, from jazz and rock to klezmer and kirtan. He has worked with Reg Schwager, Paul Hoffert, George Koller, Don Thompson, Lorne Lofsky, Russ Little, Terry Clarke, Pat LaBarbara, Guido Basso, Steve Wallace, Dave Young, John Sherwood, Nancy Walker, and Richard Underhill. He has toured with acts as diverse as Lee Aaron and the Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band. Jim is also an accomplished composer, with numerous credits in television and film.
In 2015, Jim is releasing a new album of jazz versions of pop soul classics, featuring Canadian jazz icons Reg Schwager (guitar) and George Koller (bass).
EWEN FARNCOMBE
Born in Toronto, Ewen Farncombe has studied piano since the age of 14 – with an earlier musical history that included guitar, saxophone, and flute. While at Rosedale Heights, he joined a number of musical groups and enjoyed visiting New Orleans, meeting Doc Adams and hearing Jeff Beck and Ron Carter, among others. Ewen has studied formally with Steve Koven, and presently with Brian Rudolf. He loves improvising and has played in ensemble workshops that included Kirk MacDonald, Lorne Lofsky, and Barry Romberg. Ewen has played with artists such as Mike Downes, Larnell Lewis, Heather Bambrick, George Koller, Daniel Barnes, Kirk Macdonald, Pat Labarbera, Vito Rezza, Lorne Lofsky, and Alex Dean to name a few. He has won the Music Fest Canada Phil Nimmons Outstanding Jazz Performer Award, and The Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar Emerging Artist Award.
PHILL ALBERT
Phill Albert is a sought after professional bassist who has relocated to Toronto. He released his first record as leader called “In the Big World” which features original compositions and touching renditions of familiar songs. In 2013 Phill released his NEW EP, “Perspective Suite”.
As a professional performer both on Double Bass and Electric Bass, Phill has played over 1000 shows on over 50 recordings. He has performed with many Canada’s finest musicians including: Hugh Fraser, Phil Dwyer, Mike Herriot, Pat Coleman, Brent Jarvis, Tony Wilson, George McFetridge, Buff Allen, Ross Taggart, Nick Fraser, Brad Turner, Tony Genge, John Capon, Haley Sales, Monik Nordine, Alex Goodman, Mike Murley, Andrew Downing, Darren Sigesmund, Brownman Ali, and many others.

Following a successful inclusion in the TD Toronto Jazz Festival’s Club Series, the 120 Diner launched its evening jazz series, where some of this city’s finest musical artists entertain in a casual, friendly space.
